Nicholas J. Babiak, President & CEO

Nicholas J. Babiak has over twenty years experience as a senior executive, commercial business development, senior program manager, technologist, and senior science advisor for commercial industry, the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and the United States Air Force.  He has extensive experience in virtually every phase of military science and technology including research, development and testing of a broad range of state-of-the-art weapon systems.  Mr. Babiak is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of SKYLET, Inc. SKYLET, Inc. provides executive management services in support of DoD, commercial and academic interests and short-term position trading on equities.  These executive management services include business development advisory services, corporate management services, and investment management services. 

Prior to heading up SKYLET, Inc., Mr. Babiak was Vice President, Business Development for Cambridge Research Associates, McLean, VA.   Mr. Babiak was responsible for all new business development.  He expanded the development and use of the “PowerScene” software technology into all three military service branches, various government agencies and into the commercial use sector.  Successfully doubled the revenues of the corporation within three years of assuming responsibility.  Company was awarded the Aviation Week & Space Technology 1996 Laurels Award for the corporation’s contribution to the international aerospace business. 

Prior to his position at Cambridge, Mr. Babiak completed an outstanding career in the U.S. Air Force.  Among his many achievements were the recipient of the Department of Defense’s Top award for program management, the "Pioneer Award,” and promoted to the Rank of Air Force Colonel four years before contemporaries.  Mr. Babiak was the Deputy Director, Systems Center, for the Defense Mapping Agency.  He was responsible for new technology developments to successfully support the Desert Storm operations.  He managed the activities of 700 specialized technical personnel conducting research, development, installation, and maintenance activities for the Agency's digital production system.  As a Student of the Air War College he graduated with honors and highest academic achievement award.  He was the only student who was also an instructor and taught "Technology for Future Warfare."  While serving in the Pentagon, he was Chief, Emerging Technologies and reported through the Air Force acquisition organization at the Headquarters.  He conceived and authored an Air Force wide acquisition policy for procuring weapon system electronics with specific Reliability and Maintainability stipulations. 

His prior position in the Office of the Secretary of Defense was as Deputy Director for the Very High Speed Integrated Circuits (VHSIC) program.  He reported to the Director who reported to the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Research and Advanced Technology).  On behalf of the Director his responsibilities included management of the VHSIC program including programmatics, technical direction, inter-Service negotiations, Congressional liaison, direction and budget duties.  At completion, the program was deemed as one of the Department of Defense's most successful Research and Developmental programs with investments of over one billion dollars.  He also served as Scientific Advisor to the Under Secretary of Defense (Research and Engineering); advised on technology transfer decisions (electronics) effecting international licensing agreements. In his position of Principal Advisor on Embedded Computer Resources for the Deputy Chief of Staff/Logistics and Engineering, Headquarters, USAF he was selected as member of the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board on computer software.  Responsible for Air Force acquisition and logistics policy on Embedded Computer Resources.  His headquarters responsibility included the programming, funding support for the use of over $500 million worth of engineering equipment, support facilities, and over 2000 engineers. 

Mr. Babiak earned a Masters degree in Business Administration, Central Michigan University, a Bachelors Degree in electrical engineering, computer design from the University of Buffalo.  He has taken numerous postgraduate courses, a graduate of Air War College and Armed Forces Staff College and has published over fifty technical articles.
